If you’re a fan of the 2009 3D blockbuster hit Avatar, then you should be one happy camper! It’s just been confirmed by James Cameron himself that he will make three more sequels to the movie.

It was previously said by Cameron that he would make two more sequels, but upon realizing that he has so much more to show and tell about the story and the characters, he’s decided to tack on another film!

Production for these films is insane due to the amount of effects needed to complete them. While it will be very demanding and taxing on everyone involved, as all of the movies go into production next year, we imagine that the hard work will certainly pay off in the end. Especially because the final product is expected to be as successful as the first film.

Cameron has hired some extra hands to help with writing the new films. Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver (both from Rise of Planet of the Apes) and Shane Salerno (Savages, Salinger) will be filling in the slots of those writers to help Cameron expand upon the Avatar universe and characters. As far as acting is concerned, there isn’t too much of a reason to fret because according to IMDb, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are both expected to return. There is also speculation that even Sigourney Weaver will return.

Throughout writing the films, Cameron has admitted that he doesn’t want his films to fall short like that of the Matrix sequels. “I’m writing it as separate stories that have an overall arc inclusive of that first film. I don’t want to suffer from the Matrix 2 problem, where it just ends, like, what the hell? It’s gotta end,” he said.

With the production beginning next year, the first sequel is said to drop in December 2016 followed by the second film in December 2017 and, you guessed it, the final one in December 2018.
