Paypal Attacks Apple Pay With Snarky Advertisement

In response to Apple’s new system Apple Pay, Paypal has released an ad clearly attacking Apple’s role in the recent celeb photo scandal.

In recent weeks, major tech company Apple has launched its own payment platform, Apple Pay, which will be available with the new iPhone 6 and Apple Watch. This marks Apple’s first steps into the online payment industry, prompting Paypal–which has a near-monopoly over that industry–to launch an attack ad against it that was published in multiple newspapers.

The phrase “We the people want our money safer than our selfies” is a clear reference to the celebrity nude leaks that occurred a while ago as a result of some hackers breaking into the iCloud accounts of several major celebrities, such as Jennifer Lawrence, and posting them on the Internet. It’s a bit audacious on Paypal’s part, however, considering how 145 million accounts connected to it were recently compromised, which is far worse than the hacking of a handful of celebrities’ Cloud accounts.

It remains to be seen exactly how Apple Pay will affect Paypal, seeing as Paypal is still the go-to online payment platform for most people, but if this attack ad is any indication of Paypal’s feelings, then Apple is probably doing something right.
