PETA Is Not “Roar”-ing Over Katy Perry’s Latest Music Video

Katy Perry released her music video for her latest single, “Roar”, a week ago. The video features Perry in a jungle with animals like tigers and monkeys.

While fans might be enjoying the video, PETA isn’t enjoying it as much, according to Digital Spy.

A spokeswoman for PETA, Merrilee Burke, told the Daily Star that it was very questionable that the animals would be supplied for the shoot considering the track record for the company that supplied them isn’t very good.

“The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the ‘Roar’ video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001, [It has been given] a total of 13 citations during that time,”

Burke also made a case that having the animals on set for the shoot put “unnecessary stress on the animals” by Perry and the rest of the crew.

“Animals used for entertainment… endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods, They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations.”

While PETA isn’t so happy with Perry now they’ve had a pretty friendly relationship in the past.  PETA actually sent Perry a wedding gift for her wedding to Russell Brand.

The animal rights organization sent Perry and Brand the unusual wedding gift of a formerly oppressed and now liberated bullock. The Bullock was named after the former groom, Russell. Now instead of being forced to spend its days hauling heavy loads it’s now living in a retirement center called Animal Rahat, that is supported by PETA and PETA India.

We hope that PETA and Perry can sort out their differences.

Maybe some of the PETA supporters will be out there picking up Katy Perry’s new album, Prism, when it comes out October 22.
