It’s safe to say that Peter Capaldi’s former costar Joanna Scanlan is definitely a fan of him being cast as the twelfth doctor on Doctor Who. She’s told the Press Association, “I’m delighted for him. It seems to me that he’s the essence of [the] Doctor”
She also went onto call him the “Chippendale of Doctor Who” saying, “he’s the true thing. A true fine article.”
With Capaldi being cast as the next doctor Scanlan also added that it would be very unlikely that a fifth series of the show they starred on together, The Think of It, would be happening.
“But now that Peter is the Doctor I would have thought that makes it very difficult to come back. You can’t do The Thick Of It without Peter Capaldi.”
While you might not be seeing Peter Capaldi back on The Thick of It, you will be able to see him in the highly-anticipated film, The Fifth Estate starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Capaldi will be playing the editor of the Gaurdian, Alan Rusbridger, in the film about Julian Assange and the rise of WikiLeaks. The Fifth Estate will be premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, and will hit theatres October 11 in the UK and October 18 in the US.
Capaldi’s 12th Doctor will make his debut on this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special that will follow the 50th Anniversary in November.
The Christmas special, which airs on Christmas day, will mark the end of the Eleventh doctor played by Matt Smith – who started his reign during the fifth season back in 2011.
