PopWrapped Concert Review: Beyoncé – 'The Mrs Carter Show'

On Saturday 27th April, I was lucky enough to get tickets (they sold out within 10 minutes) to see the Queen Bey herself, in the LG Arena, Birmingham. As you can imagine, the atmosphere was electric and

seat was full – I mean why wouldn’t they be, who would wanna miss out on a show, by in my opinion, the best female vocal singer in the world!

After a waiting a long time in the queue for merchandise, I somehow spent a small fortune (which I could no way afford) on a T-shirt with Beyoncé’s face on, taken from the O2 priority poster and tour programme full of photos. This came to £45 ($70) in total, it was worth it though, I mean this might be the only time I ever get to see her and I wanted something to remember the experience by.

We got seated at 6.45pm, and the support act (the very talented, Luke James) came on at 8.30pm and played a 30-minute set. Now, I’m not sure but I think Luke James is just joining Beyoncé on the European leg of her tour, nonetheless he was amazing, one of the best artist’s I’ve seen sing live. He has similar voice to Frank Ocean, displaying gorgeous falsetto and an impressive vocal range. I would pay money to see this guy in a concert of his own! He’s also a friend of Bey’s, if you watch closely; you should be able to spot him in ‘Run the World (Girls)’ video.

The moment we’d all been waiting for, not just then, but for months, Queen Bey took to the stage. Looking i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e, she opened with a proper dance song ‘Run the World (Girls)’ to get the audience on their feet (which they already were, because it was Beyoncé, no further explanation needed. After that energetic performance she informed us that she wasn’t feeling well, you could tell from her voice when she was talking, that she had picked up a cold. However, this didn’t her singing voice one bit, if she hadn’t mentioned being ill no one would’ve noticed, because her voice was so strong and powerful, it made me wonder how strong her voice would be live, if she wasn’t ill. Kudos to her, because she pulled it off like a true pro.

Additionally, she sung her new song ‘Grown Woman’ which you may recognise from her Pepsi advert; this was accompanied by some very colourful/floral clothing. The finale then consisted of a short rendition of the Whitney Houston classic ‘I Will Always Love You’ paying tribute to the last singer, she said ‘We love you Whitney’, finally closing with ‘Halo’, before she saying her thank you’s and departing the stage.

There is no doubt about it that, that was the best concert I’ve ever been to and probably will ever go to, unless I manage to get my hands on tickets next time, if you’re thinking what if there isn’t a next time, fear not, in Bey’s own words ‘I can’t wait to come back y’all’ so I’m taking that as a promise. I feel so very blessed to of had the opportunity to see the most talented woman in showbiz, perform in front of my eyes. It was a truly unforgettable experience!!
