Wait?! You mean, you haven’t watched
everyepisode of Buffering Series?! It’s definitely time that you did and who better to help you out than PopWrapped and one of the stars of the hit web series? Our good friend, Curt Mega, took some time to chat with us about the Buffering, and why fundraising projects like Kickstarter and Indiegogo have been crucial to creating shows like Buffering and many of your other fandom favorites, and most importantly, why he loves his Buffies, or fans of the show so much.
For those who are out of the loop about Buffering Series, here’s the official synopsis:
"Ben Little thought he was an up-and-coming actor until he was fired from his TV show, leaving him broke and useless compared to his roommate, Alex, who’s on a cop drama. Ben decides to convince his friends Tim and Darren to start a web series, but they’re not sure it’ll work without money. (Yeah, it ain’t easy.) Alex, trying to help Ben, volunteers his talented ex-girlfriend Cindy to join the cast, but she might be a little bi-polar. Ben’s lovelife takes centerstage as he tries to prove to his friends he can be bold. He goes after Alex’s co-star, Kristen Parker. From there the gang struggles to make a web series together as they realize that making something with nothing is hard." (Source: Indiegogo Buffering Page)
Curt had a little chat with me recently about the series and the fundraising phenomena that has taken over show business.
Why do you think Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns have become all the rage
Curt: “Fan funding has revolutionized the way that stories can be created. It allows for an interpersonal connection between creators and audience. The ability to campaign your project eliminates the middle man typically needed in non profit arts funding and allows the people who already love the show to contribute directly to the story and world they want to see unfold.”
What does it mean to have so many fans contributing to your projects? How does it feel to see so much love thrown at you from all corners of the globe?
Curt:"It absolutely blows my mind. It’s really the ultimate culmination of what we wanted to accomplish in setting out to create original content… not just showing it to people but truly engaging them, creating an experience, and bringing fans INTO the process by making them an integral part. Not just with money but with ideas and interaction. Buffering is really about collaboration on every level… for our characters AND for us as creators."
How has Kickstarter funding enabled you to grow your vision for Buffering?
What is the most exciting thing about finishing such a successful season of Buffering? What can we look forward to in Season 2?
Curt:"It enabled us to make our vision a reality. Resources are everything. It allowed us to bring the stories we had in our imaginations to life on a screen. As far as a season 2, we hope it happens. We’d love to see Buffering grow and expand but at the end of the day, it’s really a simple concept: making something you care about with your friends. We believe there’s few things more rewarding in life."
If you could say one thing to all the fans of Buffering, what would it be?
Curt:”Thank you for allowing us to create the work we are passionate about. Our biggest hope is that we can make you laugh, leave a smile on your face and remind you that, with a little hard work, anything is possible.”
There is currently 12 hours left to help fund the rest of Season One of Buffering Series! To help Curt and his crew reached their goal for episodes 5 and 6, you can donate (as little as one dollar) here:
As we previously reported, fan favorites Riker Lynch, Titus Makin Jr., and Tessa Netting will also be joining the cast for these final Season One episodes.
