The surprise 2014 horror hit Unfriended could be getting a sequel titled Unfriended: Game Night set to debut at the upcoming 2018 SXSW festival.

The 2014 horror film Unfriended will be getting a sequel that will debut at this year's SXSW film festival – despite the current secrecy surrounding the title.

The film (referred to as Unfriended: Game Night to Bloody Disgusting) was announced as one of the SXSW Midnighter films, a genre staple event that is inclusive for films that thrive as science fiction, horror, or even a selection of darker comedies. It is currently listed as "Untitled Blumhouse-Bazelevs Film" that is penned and directed by Stephen Susco, along with a promotional photo that includes a hooded figure skyping with a nervous looking young man – just enough to appease to the sequel theory that has already gained traction.

Unfriended focused on the story of social media bullying that caused a student to commit suicide and a paranormal form of payback that doesn't forget what happened to the girl. The film earned over $60 million on a budget of just under one $1 million, making it an easy decision to move forward with another trip to the world of Unfriended. The synopsis for the upcoming SXSW film describes it as –

"A 20-something finds a cache of hidden files on his new laptop and is thrust into the deep waters of the dark web. From the makers of Unfriended, this thriller unravels in real-time, entirely on a computer screen. A warning for the digital age. Cast: Colin Woodell, Betty Gabriel, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Andrew Lees, Conor del Rio, Stephanie Nogueras, Savira Windyani "
