Attention, Psychos: The reunion is real, and it is happening. The long-running USA Network show ended officially in 2014, but the cast is getting back together and heading to the small screen for a holiday-themed movie set to air this winter, according to Entertainment Weekly. Joining the dynamic pseudo-psychic detective duo of James Roday and Dulé Hill, original cast members Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kirsten Nelson are all on board. Roday is also co-writer of the flick, along with series creator Steve Franks.
A press release hyping the movie contains a few teases about what fans can expect: “A comedic thrill ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable Psych team pursues the bad guys, justice…and food!” Jeff Wachtel, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment president, is equally pumped: “Psych is a beloved part of our USA family, and what better time to reunite with family than the holidays. Steve and James have taken the unique brand of comedy that the series honed over eight seasons and packed it into a two-hour movie that successfully rekindles one of the greatest bromances in television history.”
Roday and Hill are already trading some of their signature barbs on Twitter:
You Suck It, Roday! ???? https://t.co/ENoxkVJZxf— Dulé Hill (@DuleHill) May 8, 2017
While plot details are still under wraps, Roday and Franks have revealed that the movie will take place three years after the events of the series finale, in which Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) ended up with Detective Juliet O’Hara (Maggie Lawson) and Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) in San Francisco. In the new holiday movie, a still-to-be-identified villain will be after one of the team members.
So get those pineapples ready, Psychos, because Psych: The Movie will air on USA this December.
