Punk Adams Talks New Single “Boo” & Plans For 2022

“I wrote ‘Boo’ to showcase more confidence in self…”

Riding high on a new wave of success following the release of previous single “Corner Store”, which earned him widespread attention and acclaim, LA based, Brooklyn native Punk Adams has now unveiled “Boo”, a fresh new track with an inspiring message of confidence – just what we all need as we approach a new year.

“Boo” highlights how the best way to be confident is to truly believe in and be yourself – to know you are capable of everything you dream you are, and so much more – especially when it comes to romance. The song is sexy, uplifting and full of big dance energy; a perfect tune to play whenever you feel the urge to let your hair down and just express yourself.

“I wrote ‘Boo’ to showcase more confidence in self,” Adams shares. “I wasn’t always confident in my size and appearance, so it made it difficult to talk to people out of fear of rejection. This time I wanted to put myself out there in a more flirtatious way, seeing someone I like and taking a chance.” PopWrapped caught up with him to find out more about the single, to discover the artists he’s been listening to and what his plans are for the fast-approaching new year.

Tell me a little about your backstory. How did you get into music and what experiences would you say you’ve had and been through have helped shap you into the artist that you are today?

I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I grew up listening to hip hop and R&B, pop, and rock which shapes the sound in my music today. I was told I wasn’t good enough to sing my own songs, my look isn’t right, and that no one would get me. But that taught me to have confidence in myself. I truly believe that I have something to give the world so I didn’t let others’ opinions of me define me, only I can do that, period.

You recently released your latest single “Boo.” Can you talk us through the creative process? Is there any particular story or message to/behind it?

I really wanted to work on some sounds and music that was exciting and felt good to me. Titus E Johnson was one of the producers I had worked with in 2020 and he really got that 90s hip hop R&B sound I was going for. I wrote “Boo” as a way to express confidence in being flirty. The message in “Boo” is to be confident enough to shoot your shot with someone you’re interested in.

What was your goal for the track and what do you hope listeners take from the song when they hear it?

I hope to make everyone dance and feel just as good listening to it as I felt making it.

What was it like collaborating with Titus E. Johnson?

Titus always gets the vibes I’m going for and we have a lot of fun creating.

Who are your top artists right now? Who are you currently listening to the most?

I listen to nothing but upcoming and indie artists, so right now I’m really loving  Zacchae’us Paul – “Hot Fries”  and Alex Mali – “Start It Up.”

We’re just a few days away from the end of 2021 so I have to ask – what does 2022 have in store for you? Can we expect more new music, perhaps some live dates?

I will be dropping more in 2022: more music, visuals, merch, and live shows.
