Having grown up listening to the likes of Randy Travis and Dolly Parton, Queeva has long since had a powerful and strong connection to country music and was inspired to learn the guitar thanks to Taylor Swift. In the few short years since she’s been a staple of the music scene, she’s so far racked up more than a million streams and views and earned herself coverage and support from American Songwriter, Just Jared and CMT among others. PopWrapped caught up with Queeva to chat about her latest single “Do Better” and her favourite artists.
Can you tell us about your new song “Do Better”? Did anyone or anything specifically inspire the lyrics?
I’m so excited for people to hear what I’ve been working on, including this single. I wouldn’t say anyone specifically inspired the lyrics of the song, but it describes what a perfect relationship would feel like. It’s a happy love song that I think people will be able to relate to; I like to write music that I think others will be able to connect to.
Your single “Show Off” has such a great message about being true to yourself. How did that song and its video come together? Do you have any fun behind the scenes stories you can share with us from filming it?
“Show Off” is one of my favorite songs that I have written and it talks about not having to impress someone in order for them to like you. I think especially with teens growing up in today’s world, we can feel pressured to change ourselves in order to fit in. I wanted to capture that in a song, and I wrote it with Trent Tomlinson and Brandon Darcy. I had so much fun filming the music video and I love the way it turned out. On set, we had a bunch of confetti that was falling on me as I was singing and I couldn’t stop laughing because pieces kept falling in my mouth.
How did country music come into your life? What attracted you to it?
I grew up listening to country music because my dad was always a big fan. He played Randy Travis and Dolly Parton all the time, and I just fell in love with country. I knew that as I got older, I would want to start writing songs and sharing my message through music.
Who are some of your favorite musical artists today that you’re listening to?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown and Luke Combs recently. I also love female artists like Kacey Musgraves and Marren Morris.
If you could create a dream tour, who else would be on the lineup with you?
I would definitely have Kane Brown and Thomas Rhett – that would be a dream come true.
When you’re not working on music, what do you do in your free time for fun? Are there any TV shows you’re obsessed with or have binged lately?
I like to spend time with friends and family or cook. I have been obsessed with watching The Blacklist on Netflix.
