Reese Witherspoon Goes ‘Home Again’ In New Trailer

In the trailer for her new movie, ‘Home Again,’ Reese Witherspoon is returning to her rom-com roots by way of Nancy Meyers and a trio of younger men.

Reese Witherspoon is going Home Again. In the trailer for her new movie, due out in September, Witherspoon is returning to her rom-com roots by way of Nancy Meyers and a trio of younger men.

In the film, Witherspoon plays Alice Kinney, a woman who decides to return with her two kids to her hometown after splitting up with her husband (played by Michael Sheen). While out on the town for a birthday celebration with friends, she meets three young filmmakers down on their luck. They need a place to stay, and Witherspoon’s got an empty guesthouse available. As this unusual family comes together, one of the guys is falling for Witherspoon just as Sheen pops back in her life. Candice Bergen is on board as Alice’s mom.

Home Again is the directorial debut of Hallie Meyers-Shyer, daughter of Nancy. (Meyers-Shyer also wrote the flick.) Nancy is a producer on this movie. With her rom-com films like Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, and It’s Complicated, Nancy Meyers has firmly established her command of smart, fresh, leading female characters and lush, lustworthy set interiors. Based on the trailer for Home Again, it’s clear that Meyers-Shyer is heading in a similarly fun yet meaty direction with her feature debut.

As Witherspoon told People last month, that mother-daughter dynamic, as well as her own life experience, is what brought her back to the world of romantic comedies. “I really enjoyed the collaborative process with Nancy and Hallie. The idea that two women who had a lot of experience making films could help a young woman with her first feature film was very exciting to me,” she said. “I’ve been a single mom before, and I’ve been divorced before. The idea that I could give women, who are at a crossroads in their life, hope was really what drew me to the project.”

Home Again opens in theaters September 8. Check out the official trailer below:
