Winning any of the major showbusiness awards – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar or Tony, is a remarkable achievement in itself. But it takes an incredible amount of talent and versatility to win all four. Achieving the feat is known as the EGOT, and with his win for Best Original Song, Robert Lopez becomes the 12th person to achieve it, and also the youngest person to do so.
Lopez won with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez for composing the showstopping “Let It Go” from the megahit Frozen, which also nabbed Best Animated Feature Film. Their speech was quite unique – the alternated and rhymed the names of people who worked on Frozen, and even took the opportunity to say “Happy Oscar to you/Let’s do Frozen 2.”
They ended their speech by thanking their children, saying: “Our girls, Katie and Annie, our song is inspired by our love for you in the hope that you never let fear and shame keep you from celebrating the unique people that you are. Thank you, we love you.”
The EGOT is a wonderful achievement, and congratulations to Robert Lopez for showing his talent and earning a well-deserved accolade.
