Rohan Marley has vowed to step up and take a more active parenting role while his former partner, Lauryn Hill, is serving her prison sentence. Marley, who is the son of legendary singer Bob Marley and who has five children with Hill, told TMZ I “will be there for my kids”.
As we reported last week, Hill was sentenced to a 3-month stint in jail for failing to pay taxes on her $1.8 million income earned between 2005 and 2007. The couple, who dated for 13 years but never married, decided to split in 2009. Since then, Hill has had primary responsibility of raising their brood – aged between 5 and 15.
While Marley has always been a presence in his children’s lives, with Hill due to begin her sentence by July 8, he’s going to help ease her stress vowing to “be there even more while she is dealing with this… [I want] to make sure that everything is fine”. The couple have apparently agreed that the children will be staying primarily with family members with Marley assisting as much as possible.
In addition to the jail time, Hill will then spend the next three months on house arrest. Following that, she will have nine months of supervised release.
