Rosario Dawson, known to audiences as the connecting character, Claire Temple, in Marvel's Netflix television shows, may be heading to a rival superhero franchise.

The actress is currently negotiating to star in the X-men spin-off film, New Mutants. If talks are succesfull, she is set to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a mutant and medical doctor with the ability to create a protective bio-field around herself.  The character is set to take in a leadership role as a mentor to the younger characters.

New Mutants will tell the story of a group of teenage heroes who are the first graduates of Xavier's school. So far, Split's Anya Taylor-Joy and Game of Throne's Maisie Williams are the only stars confirmed to have signed up for the film.

Williams will be portraying Rahne Sinclair, also known as Wolfsbane, a girl with strong religious convictions who is trying to reconcile her faith with her mutant ability to turn into a wolf. While Taylor-Joy will play Illyana Rasputin, with the superhero name of Magik, who is a girl that has learned sorcery.

The abilities of these character sounds like they belong more in a fantasy horror film than a superhero film, but as it turns out, that is the direction the film is going for.

“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” says director Josh Boone, adding, “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

Which is one of the few things we know about the plot. However, a source told Entertainment Weekly that the story will revolve around when a mutant's power is at it's most dangerous, which is when they first get it. With what we have seen in the X-men film universe, this is usually during their adolescent years.

So, we will expect a lot of teenage angst, and this may be where Rosario Dawson's Dr. Reyes comes in, as the adult for the group. This is a role that she sort of portrays for the Netflix Marvel heroes as well, in addition to medical aid. This is another curious similarity to the role she may play in the upcoming X-men spin-off.

New Mutants is slated for release on April 13, 2018.
