The actress has been selected to play the female lead in Poltergeist, the new installment of the Tobe Hooper directed classic that will be made by MGM and Fox 2000. Gil Kenan will be directing the reboot and the script was written by David Lindsay-Abaire with Sam Raimi and Nathan Kahane producing.

The team is still currently looking to cast the male lead for the film.

Jobeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson were the original parents whose lives were turned upside down by a bunch of spirits that kidnap their youngest daughter. Given how well these horror films seem to be doing in terms of production these days, I get the feeling that this film could go either way at this point.

Rosemarie DeWitt is just coming off the films Promised Land and Your Sister’s Sister, and she is currently starring in Kill the Messenger with Jeremy Renner for Focus Features. She will be seen next in the Lynn Shelton directed Touchy Feely.

A release date has not yet been announced for the film.

What are your thoughts on a Poltergeist remake?
