Russell Westbrook Fashionably Avoids Kevin Durant Questions

Everyone wants to ask Russell Westbrook about Kevin Durant, but he cleverly redirects the reporters to talking about fashion instead.

It’s NBA All-Star Weekend, and all anyone wants to talk about is Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. They’re both All-Stars for the West, with Durant starting and Westbrook coming off the bench. Are they going to play together? Is Steve Kerr going to throw them on the floor together, along with three of Durant’s Warriors teammates? Are they going to keep ignoring each other? Will someone broker peace between the two?

All-Star Media Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to ask Westbrook about his former teammate. They’ve had three head-to-head match-ups, with the Warriors winning all three. Last week, Durant played as a visitor for the first time in OKC. With Durant signing with the Warriors in free agency, a majority of the Thunder fans sided with Westbrook and showed their support via cupcake chants and t-shirts. But that was last week.

This is a whole new week. Every time Westbrook was asked about Durant, he redirected the conversation to fashion.

He talked about some of his favorite designers and made sure to ask reporters about their favorite brands or what they’re wearing. A known fashion-plate, Westbrook also offered some suggestions and was happy to engage about fashion or any question not involving Durant or the Warriors.

The best way to avoid being whiteboard material is to not say anything, and Westbrook did that. However, there’s also the chance he was poking fun at the Warriors’ photo shoot by talking fashion.

The NBA hasn’t seen a breakup this bitter since Shaq and Kobe, and their reconciliation came to be after Celtics’ Hall of Famer Bill Russell urged Shaq to make peace. Well, there’s no word on if Bill Russell is getting involved in this feud, and we’ll have to wait and see what transpires during Sunday night’s All-Star Game.
