Hey Whedonphiles! We can add one more familiar name to the roster for Joss Whedon’s next big project – the television show “S.H.I.E.L.D.”! J. August Richards has been cast on the TV show, although his exact role is being kept hush-hush. Richards is best known for his portrayal of Charles Gunn on Whedon’s “Angel”, the spinoff series to “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”. This will be his first time collaborating with Whedon since then.

As for “S.H.I.E.L.D.” itself, the show’s pilot was filmed early this year. It was co-written by Joss Whedon and his brother Jed and Maurissa Tancharoen. Richards will be joining Clark Gregg (who will be reprising the role of Agent Phil Coulson of the Marvel film franchise), Ming-Na, Brett Dalton, and more.

As of right now there is no official premiere date for the series, but it seems like a no-brainer to pick it up for a full season. After all, the Marvel films have been wildly successful, and ABC entertainment president Paul Lee sad “S.H.I.E.L.D.” could be “a big franchise for [them]”. He went on to say that it could fit in almost anywhere on the network’s schedule.
