Actress Rita Moreno has been announced as the 50th recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award, adding to her already impressive roster of honors. Moreno is most noted for her role as Anita in the film adaptation of West Side Story, where she received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, as well as her role in Singin’ In The Rain. Moreno was one of the first and only Hispanics to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award for her roles in film, live theater, music and television.
Ken Howard, SAG-AFTRA President, was proud to be giving the organizations “most prestigious honor” to Moreno, who has worked in the industry for the past 60 years. Mr. Howard went on to describe Moreno as a pioneer and said, “She is an extraordinarily versatile, talented and generous actor, whose career is notable for its courageous choices and for the breadth, depth and quality of her many demanding and commanding roles.”
SAG Awards 2014 will be held on January 18 2014.
