25-year-old South Londoner Saint Joshua writes music that has a soulful yet gentle cinematic feel, immersed in rich harmonies akin to artists such as Daniel Caesar, The Internet and Solange. A big fan of Frank Ocean and James Blake, his new single “I Like”, the lyric video for which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, was written by Joshua in his home studio, produced by CMedina and explores themes of love, romance and existentialism that take on new meanings thanks to his vocal prowess and the songs’ rich lyrical content.
Having grown up listening to popular R&B artists such as Usher and Destiny’s Child, it was discovering iconic, hugely regarded and acclaimed albums such as “The Miseducation of…” by Lauryn Hill and “Voodoo” by D’Angelo, that ultimately gave Joshua a sense and idea of the music he wanted to make or emulate through his own. He says of his new single: “The song is about the initial feelings of meeting someone new, where the connection is almost too good to be true. Too early to call it love, so It’s like. The song is inspired by not only my previous relationships but my short stint online dating last year and the great failed connections I’ve had.”
If “I Like” represents Saint Joshua’s entry point into the music world and with his debut 7 track EP ‘Pilot’ set for release mid-summer, 2021 could see this up-and-comer quickly rise through the artist ranks to become a big name on people’s lips and in their ears.
