Samantha Bee Just Found The ‘Worst People In Tennessee’

Samantha Bee just took down the “worst people in Tennessee”, a couple of legislators who backed up the Tennessee bathroom law. Watch!

Apparently, idiotic laws are contagious since one of the most horrible, unnecessary, and downright stupid laws ever has been emerging across different states like super lice on first graders. Yes, the so-called “bathroom law”, first imposed in North Carolina, is spreading like the plague onto many states in the US.

One of those states, Tennessee, was the target of Full Frontal With Samantha Bee’s host, Samantha Bee, yesterday. She had an excellent segment focused on who she — and many others — believe are the “worst people in Tennessee”, the legislators backing up the Tennessee bathroom law.

Bee introduced viewers to Jeremy Durham, a charming lawmaker who is one of the sponsors of this law who has (allegedly) sexually harassed — by inappropriately touching, texting, and asking for nude pictures –- so many people at his office that he has had to be moved to a whole different building on Capitol Hill. Did I say ‘charming’? I meant ‘hypocritical’!

Unlike the very well-documented complaints against Durham regarding his awful (mis)conduct, there are no documented cases at all of transgender people attacking or harassing anyone in a bathroom. So, for Durham, it’s okay to be a convicted child molester who also possesses child pornography — oh yeah, he wrote a letter supporting someone (a pastor!) and got his sentence reduced from 20 to 3 years in prison. But what’s not okay? To be trans and have to go pee in the bathroom where you are supposed to go pee. Because, oh my God, what would all the unprotected girls and women in Tennessee do if they were to encounter a trans person in the ladies’ bathroom?

I don’t get it. If you are a woman taking a nature break and find a trans person in the women’s restroom, you will (or should) probably politely smile, go use the bathroom, and then leave — please do wash your hands before you go, though. But, seriously, what’s the issue here? If it’s — as Durham and other dum-dums think — because of a possible sexual attack to girls and women in the bathroom, couldn’t male child molesters who attack boys do so in the men’s bathroom? Isn’t that much more plausible than a transgender person, who just wants to go to the bathroom in peace, attacking a girl in the women’s bathroom? What’s the logic behind these bathroom laws, then? As I said, I don’t get it. And I’m not alone here; many celebrities have voiced their strong opposition to these “bathroom laws”.

Samantha Bee then took down another one of Tennessee’s finest lawmakers, Sheila Butt (for real, that’s her last name, we’re not making this up). Yes, Miss Butt, the same woman who once took to Facebook to say “it is time for a Council on Christian Relations and an NAAWP in this country”, became infamous for blocking a law that allows rape and incest victims an exemption from Tennessee’s 48-hour waiting period for abortions. Butt states that rape claims are not “verifiable”.

Butt is not only a seemingly ignorant and racist legislator, she is an author, too! Yes, her Christian dating guide, Everyday Princess: Daughter of The King (we’re not making this up either), was also on hand for Samantha Bee to make fun of read aloud. In her book, Butt reprimands a three-year-old girl for wanting to marry two of her Barbie dolls (“… going to marry her life-sized Barbie doll at three years old … girls don’t marry girls. God made girls to marry boys!”), and she also compares a non-virginal woman to a used dress that no one could ever possibly want to wear (“This Dress is Pretty … But it’s Used!”).

Samantha Bee ends this remarkable segment by urging her audience to do some real research on legislators before they vote in order for them to make informed decisions. We couldn’t agree more. As Thomas Jefferson said, “information is the currency of democracy.”
