Quite the regular on the Broadway stage with performances in Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, Black Clown and Paradise Square under her belt, when the Corona Virus pandemic hit hard last year, and theatres, as with entertainment venues around the world, had to close their doors, Sapphire Hart could have let the uncertainty ahead get her down. Instead, she seized the opportunity to focus on one of her other passions; song-writing, with one of the results from that focus being her new single “By The Way”, the video for which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.
Her music connects with fans around the world thanks to lyrics that are both honest and relatable – “By The Way” is a strong testament to this – while Sapphire herself promotes self-worth and empathy both as a person and as a performer. Asked about the story to the video for the track, she says: “The inspiration behind the video was to retell the story of a siren. They often get a bad rap and I wanted to flip that. It’s me, the siren, that’s been cursed with a voice that lures men in for all the wrong reasons. With the imagery we wanted to transport you to my island of love. The blue and teal tones, the dark, rich skin of my leading man, the white paint that shows the removal of freedom are all a part of this rebirth that I have had within this year. Being at the beach is my most freeing place. All the elements are there and within me I feel a shift that takes me to a place of true bliss.”
She goes on to add that: “I want my music to be an escape from the world. I want to be that bliss. On my love island you are magic. Sapphire Hart is the intersection of love and freedom. I want my listeners to feel like I am speaking their most inner thoughts. This rebirth is a new sound as well; I started in EDM and pop and this is a fusion of my love for RNB and pop music.”
