Courage. Bravery. Fierceness.

Throughout the years, these words embody the go-getter attitude in all of us to tackle life’s constant challenges and overcome tragedy and despair with hope, light and resilience.  There is no shortage of heroes we look up to and emulate to be inspired whether they are real-life lifesaving firemen to ordinary citizens out to make a difference in their community.

Last night, Sara Bareilles performed at the Democratic National Committee in NYC headlined by First Lady Michelle Obama and openly gay NBA player Jason Collins.

Sara posted the photo on her Twitter account  with the caption: “Bravest of brave. My absolute hero and darling man: @jasoncollins34” on Instagram last night (@sarabareilles).”

Jason Collins made history in the world of professional basketball by becoming the first athlete in the NBA to officially come out, much to the overwhelming positive response from fellow athletes and fans alike.

“Brave” is the empowering new anthem from multi-platinum artist Sara Bareilles  available on ITunes featured on her forthcoming album The Blessed Unrest to be released on July 16.

Sara has said that she wrote “Brave” partly because of a friend of hers struggling with coming out of the closet. You can hear her talk about it in the webisode here:
