When it was announced that Shailene Woodley had had her scenes cut from The Amazing Spiderman 2, there was wide speculation that the Canadian actress Sarah Gadon had been tapped to replace her.
The 26-year-old actress, who is best known for her role in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis alongside Robert Pattinson, has opened about what her role in the sequel entails.
"My character is an artificial intelligence officer," Gadon told Toronto Life. “She represents the convergence of humanity and technology - it’s very Cronenberg.”
Director Marc Webb also released a statement regarding the blonde bombshell’s role in the upcoming film, "Sarah makes a number of appearances in the film, in a Hal 9000 way," referring to the artificial intelligence character which villainized "2001: A Space Odyssey,” he said to ET Canada.
Cosmopolis co-star Paul Giamatti will also be joining the Spidey cast as The Rhino, while Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro and Dane DeHaan has been cast as Harry Osborne.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released on April 18, 2014 in the UK, and May 2, 2014 in the US.
