Do you, like so many women, suffer from a shoe addiction? Fear not, fashion fiends, for you are not alone. Carrie Bradshaw, er, Sarah Jessica Parker has hung up her acting hat for the moment to design a shoe line for Manolo Blahnik called SJP.
Parker’s character on the hit HBO show, Sex and the City, made the every-woman pine for shoes like Carrie’s to line their closets. She really made Manolo Blahnik a household name. Parker, unsurprisingly, just felt like this was the natural progression of things: “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,” she told Vogue. “Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes and by default I learned an enormous amount,” she added. “It’s hard to walk away from that.”
This won’t be Parker’s first time dabbling in the design industry. Her Bitten line was made to be affordable for all and was sold exclusively at the now bankrupt retailer, Steve and Berry’s. She was also the creative director for Halston before leaving in 2011.
SJP gives a short description of what we can expect to see from her line:
"We’re putting new colors together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet," Parker teased. "And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."
SJP will launch exclusively at Nordstrom next year. I think it’s safe to assume that Carrie would be proud!
