Shaman King Series Confirmed To Return In 2018

The popular anime and manga franchise Shaman King is now set to return in 2018 in partnership with Kodansha Comics and via Shonen Jump in Japan.

After much speculation, the manga series Shaman king is set to return after celebrating it’s 20th anniversary!

In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Shaman King became a well known franchise in both Japan and the US, but managed to go out with a whimper and not much in-depth conversation afterwards. When Kodansha teased a Shaman King announcement a few weeks ago, most assumed it would be a follow up while some remained sure it was nothing more than an anniversary addition – but according to the official website (and Kodansha Comics) Shaman King will actually be retuning with a brand new arc set to be published later this year.

For those of you who need a refresher on the premise of the once popular franchise, Shaman King introduced us to Yoh Asakura, a young man hoping to achieve the coveted title of Shaman King, someone whose power and influence could change the world as we know it. It additionally introduced us to his love interest Anna Kyoyama that set up an enjoyable pairing that is once again teased on the website through promotional artwork for the manga follow up.

The series will begin publication in the spring as featured in Weekly Shonen Edge, but now that the Shaman King title has been spoken of once again, it’s as if it reignited the excitement of its original fan base and could be a very exciting addition to anime and manga titles set for 2018! Now we just need to hope there are potential plans to animate the series so it can really be enjoyed in every form possible!

What are your thoughts on the return of the Shaman King?
