Stacey Dash Calls Academy Awards Boycott ‘Ludicrous’

Former Clueless actress Stacey Dash weighs in on the boycott of the Academy Awards, and she thinks that Jada Pinkett-Smith is being ludicrous. Details here.

Stacey Dash, star of cult classic Clueless and Fox News contributor, has called the black entertainers boycott of the upcoming Academy Awards, “ludicrous“.

After the Academy Awards nominations were released last week, prominent black celebrities including Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have called for a boycott of the awards by African Americans. No black or Latino actors or actresses were included in the 20 individuals nominated for Best Actor/Actress and Supporting Actor/Actress categories for the second year in a row.  Director Spike Lee called for people to not attend and not watch the show when it airs in February.

However, whilst it appears on social media that many agree with the boycotters regarding the lack of diversity in the nominees, actress Stacey Dash, 49, took a different stance. Dash claimed that she thinks the boycott is uncalled for, and that if full integration and acceptance is to be achieved TV Channels such as BET should not air and there should be no Black History Month. Dash appeared on Wednesday’s Fox & Friends calling these channels and events “double standards.”

Dash is no stranger to controversy, endorsing Mitt Ronney over President Obama in the 2012 Presidental campaign. She also stated that President Obama didn’t give a “shit” about terrorism, live on Fox News causing her to be suspended from her position on the show.

Dash is not the only celebrity rallying against the boycott. Janet Hubert, who starred as Aunt Vivi  in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alongside Will Smith, has said Jada Pinkett-Smith’s argument against the academy  is “self contrived” and is only bothered by this because her husband was snubbed in this year’s nominations.

What do you think? Do you agree with Stacey and think that the stars shouldn’t boycott? Or do you believe the entertainers are right to do so? Weigh in below.
