She’s been the break out star on E4’s surprise hit, My Mad Fat Diary, and while she’s returning for a second season as Rachel ‘Rae’ Earl, an obese 16-year-old who has spent the past four months in a psychiatric hospital, it now looks like actress Sharon Rooney is set for bigger and better things… an appearance in the third season of Sherlock if her CV is to be believed.
The UK commuter paper, Metro revealed that Rooney’s CV on her talent agency TROIKA’s website has a new entry – a credit on the hit BBC 1 drama. However, when visiting the site, the entry has mysteriously disappeared from her page. According to Metro the character she will play is named Laura and she makes an appearance in the first episode of the new series entitled “The Empty Hearse”.
Filming has recently started on the third outing of the popular detective series with location shooting popping up all over London. It was also announced that Martin Freeman’s (Watson) wife, Amanda Abbington is also joining the cast. Not much is known about this new season, with producers urging fans not to post pictures or spoilers online. What is known is that the second episode is entitled “The Sign Of Three” and that executive producer Sue Vertue has revealed photos that hint of an upcoming wedding in that episode.
There has been no announcement on whether Sherlock will return to our screens later this year or whether it will be held over till early 2014. And there has been no further word about Rooney’s possible involvement in the series. Fans can breath a sign of relief though, as it appears that it has already been given the green light for a fourth season.
