It looks like Karl Urban won’t be finished working with JJ Abrams any time soon. The Star Trek: Into Darkness actor has signed on to co-star in a pilot being executive produced by Abrams for Fox.

The premise sounds like a standard police show, but with the usual JJ Abrams sci-fi flare – this time with androids. Currently titled “Human”, the show is set in the near future in a world where police officers are partnered with life-like androids. Urban is set to play John Kennex, a respected police officer who has cut himself off emotionally after a traumatic injury.

The pilot is being written by “Fringe” writer and producer J.H. Wyman and directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist). This project comes from JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in conjunction with Warner Bros. Television.

Minka Kelly (“Friday Night Lights”) was also reportedly cast today. She and Urban join Lili Taylor (“Six Feet Under”) and Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean).

We have to wonder: with “Fringe” having ended recently, will Fox want to take on another JJ Abrams-produced sci-fi series to take its place?
