San Diego Comic-Con seems like heaven on earth for nerds, geeks, and fans of pop culture alike. Considering how hard it is to get a pass of any kind, I think attending the convention is on many a person’s “bucket list.”
What warms the cockles of the geek heart is when the actors, writers, directors, and producers whose work we enjoy so much are equally as chuffed to be there.
Edgar Wright (of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and not-soon-enough-for-me The World’s End) is really looking forward to Gravity’s release for exactly the same reasons I am not – fright. Hugh Jackman is all ready to geek out with fans in Hall H about his upcoming film The Wolverine. Sleepy Hollow’s Tom Mison (a household name, well, at least in my household) is geeking out over a remake of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos (I’m sure I still have the book somewhere). Patton Oswalt is looking forward to being a fly on the wall at JJ Abrams’s Star Wars: Episode VII panel, and the latter’s colleagues, writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, apparently have a penchant for getting merch –things like t-shirts, toys, and comic books. If the rumours are true, there’ll be stuff aplenty at the 44th annual ‘Pop Culture Faire’.
For the rest of us, as my Popwrapped colleague Sam has already outlined on Twitter, there’s an agonising decision-making process: do I watch/read everything I can get my hands on, or cover my eyes, ears, my computer keyboard and pretend it isn’t happening. We’ll see.
