Grab your tissues before you watch this video. Stephen Colbert is going to make you cry and it’s not going to be from laughter.
His mother, Lorna Tuck Colbert, passed away last week at the age of ninety-two. Wednesday’s show was Colbert’s first back since the event happened.
In his opening monologue, Colbert delivered a stunning and touchingly beautiful tribute to his mother. It sent me into tears watching it.
Colbert said simply of his mother: “Now if you watch this show, and you like this show, it’s because everybody who works here and I’m lucky to be one of them. But when you watch the show, if you also like me, that’s because of my mom”
As to how Colbert is dealing, he said: “I know it may sound greedy to want more days with a person who lived so long, But the fact that my mother was 92 does not diminish it; it only magnifies the enormity of the room whose door has now quietly shut.”
Check out the video below with a box of tissues on standby.
