‘Supermarket Sweep’ Coming Back To TV!

‘Supermarket Sweep’ is coming back for another round.

Game show fans, get ready: Supermarket Sweep is being reborn

Airing most popularly in the early ’90s, the grocery store-set show pitted contestants against each other in a battle of food—and shopping—smarts. After earning shopping times by answering food-related trivia questions and finding special items on the shelves, Supermarket Sweep guests got to then run wild throughout the store set, filling up carts during “The Big Sweep” with as much as they could fit. The winner raked up the highest price tag at the end of the show.

In other words, pure genius:

Supermarket Sweep: Shoppers’ Special!

The newly planned reboot of Supermarket Sweep will actually be the game show’s fourth iteration. The show was originally on ABC during the 1960s, followed by its runs on Lifetime from 1990 to 1995 and then again from 2000 to 2003 on PAX (now Ion Television). Both the ’90s and 2000s shows were hosted by the ever-affable David Ruprecht.

Henry Howard (son of the 1960s version’s creator, Al Howard) is eager to bring back the supermarket madness, saying in a statement: “I’m delighted that FremantleMedia has made the exciting decision to bring back this classic game show, and I look forward to working with their talented teams around the world. In honour of Supermarket Sweep’s return… I believe I’ll go shopping!”

No premiere date or network announcements yet for the new Supermarket Sweep, but hopeful contestants are likely already plotting. Remember, you’ve got to have a plan!
