Skyfall director, Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road, American Beauty), has confirmed he won’t be returning to the 007 franchise anytime soon. Meaning there will be a new director, when Daniel Craig reprises his role as Mr. Bond in Bond 24, which is due for cinema release in 2014.
Skyfall was the most successful Bond movie ever; also becoming the highest grossing film ever in the UK, beating the likes of Avatar and Titanic. Mendes has said the reason for his departure, is to concentrate on his upcoming theatre projects.
Mendes told Empire magazine "It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie”. The well-established director already has theatre adaptions of King Lear and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory lined up.
Bond fans fear not! Mendes never won’t
won’tdirect another Bond film, in fact he said “I feel very honoured to have been part of the Bond family and very much hope I have a chance to work with them again sometime in the future.” This kind of sounds positive don’t you think?
