The Alluring Plot Behind Golden Globe-Winner The Affair

Showtime’s The Affair won Best TV Drama Series at the Golden Globes last weekend, but not everyone is familiar with the show, so allow us to explain!

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards wrapped (get it?) this past Sunday (Jan. 11) with many applauded winners, both predicted and not. To view the announced winners in all categories, visitour article here. But this article, ladies and gents, is to highlight the Golden Globes winner for Best TV Series in Drama category, The Affair. The series premiered on Showtime on October 12th, 2014 and recently had its season finale on December 21. It was renewed for a second season back in November, and we now know why!

For those that haven’t watched the highly acclaimed show, it was created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi. If you aren’t familiar with Treem’s work, she’s also written and co-produced the HBO series In Treatment, and co-executive produced and written Netflix original and 72nd Annual Golden Globes nominee House of Cards.

But why is The Affair gaining so much attention, you may ask? Aside from their Golden Globe-winning actress Ruth Wilson and nominated actor Dominic West, the show’s plot leaves a lot for discussion and contemplation and yet a lot to be desired, as in answers!

The show follows the story of Noah Solloway and Alison Lockhart, both with respective and complicated family situations that lead them to meet during a summer at the Hamptons, at a restaurant where Lockhart happens to work as a waitress. The two eventually fall into an affair, as promised to the viewers, but on two different accounts of memory which leave the audience wondering:

What is the real story?

There is also a murder plot surrounding the two, which the audience finds out more of, or less of, depending the individual’s personal intake of the show.

The Affair is available for instant streaming on SHO.com and YouTube. We’ll update you here on PopWrapped when it hits the Netflix or Hulu shelves.
