The Flash 06×19, Success Is Assured

Even though it was an unplanned, makeshift season finale of The Flash since production shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic and the last episodes of season 7 weren’t filmed, “Success Is Assured” still served as a pretty good season finale.

Even though it was an unplanned, makeshift season finale of The Flash since production shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic and the last episodes of season 7 weren’t filmed, “Success Is Assured” still served as a pretty good season finale. After Barry’s pep talk to the team last week, Team Flash is ready for a fight against Eva.

Team Flash gathers at the CCPD in Barry’s CSI Lab (where he has a backlog of files from his day job that he can’t afford to lose) to plot their next move against Eva. The figure their best course of action is the connection through Black Hole. But where is Black Hole? The diamond that Sue stole and gave to Ralph contains Black Hole’s logo, which doubles as a map. The map leads them to an abandoned warehouse (it’s always an abandoned warehouse). When Barry and Ralph get there, Mirror-Singh is already there dousing the place in gasoline and burns it to the ground. The good news is that all of Black Hole’s records and paper trails were in that warehouse, including the files on Sue’s parents. Now, Mr. and Mrs. Dearbon are free from Black Hole’s clutches and can go home. Ralph tells the Dearbon family this news in his office but Sue tells him that Carver had a change of heart and already let them off the hook so Ralph’s services are no longer required.

After the fire, Barry offers Carver CCPD protection since Eva’s in the real world now and looking to kill her husband. Carver gets cocky and refuses. He has his Black Hole minions, Ultraviolet, Sunshine, and Dr. Light. However, Eva captures his minions first and turns them against Carver. When Carver learns that Eva has control of his minions, he reconsiders Barry’s offer. Just as the team is about to leave the precinct, Mirror-Singh shows up with a tempting offer. Mirror-Singh offers to trade Iris’s freedom for Carver’s life. Barry hesitates. Nash picks up on Barry’s hesitation and smoke bomb teleports the group back to S.T.A.R. Labs. Harry Wells appears to Nash saying the Barry Allen he knew never would have hesitated. Nash repeats this to Barry and tells him to consider what Iris would say when she found out he traded another person’s life for hers.

Team Flash heads out to McCulloch Technologies, where they believe they will be safest from Eva because there’s an ion force field around the building and a mirror-free panic room. As Ralph and Allegra help evacuate the building, Ralph notices Sue sneaking up to the elevators. Ralph catches her and deduces that she took her parents’ place in Black Hole so she can kill Carver. Sue doesn’t deny it. Ralph urges her not to and tells her he believes in her. Clearly, Sue doesn’t want to hear it because she knocks out Ralph and gets on the elevator.

Unfortunately, the ion force field doesn’t last long as the power goes out. Eva and her minions descend upon McCulloch and Eva orders Carver’s minions to kill him. A fight between Carver’s Angels and Team Flash ensues, which is shot in some pretty cool split-screen comic book-esque way. Even Sue eventually returns to help fight.

Meanwhile, down by Carver’s panic room, Eva emerges going full Mirror Mistress with an epic new costume. Her arms turn into something like a canon and she fires at Barry and starts throwing broken mirror shards at her husband. Barry dives in front of Carver and saves him. But Eva’s not going to stop until Carver is dead, so she pushes a mirror shard through Barry’s arm and through Carver, killing him. Mission accomplished. Eva lets Barry go because she has done what she set out to do.

The next day, Eva gives a press conference where she lies about where she has been for the past six years and resumes her place as CEO of McCulloch. And in a surprising twist, she also frames Sue for Carver’s death. Poor Sue, just can’t catch a break but that means more Sue and Ralph fun next season! Barry heads over to say goodbye to Caitlin before she goes with Carla for treatment. Caitlin reminds Barry that his real superpower has always been love, instilling a bit of hope in him that the team can still defeat Eva, who is full of hate. Love always wins over hate. Cecile also arrives with Joe, who is now safe and out of WITSEC now that Carver is dead. Joe gives everyone on Team Flash a hug. Oh how I love Papa Joe and Mama Cecile!

Meanwhile, Iris and Kamilla are still trapped in the Mirrorverse. Iris realizes that she can connect with the technology there but Kamilla can’t. She concentrates hard on a screen and manages to find out where the real Singh is. But right after she does, she is blipped out of there and we cut to the credits and the To Be Continued…
