The actress is set to become a part of Phil Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s classic novel for The Weinstein Company and Walden Media, according to Deadline.
The Giver is set in a fantasy dystopian society in which mankind has sacrificed its history and emotions, while people fear freedom and have their professions assigned to them for life.
Brenton Thwaites will play Jonas, the Receiver of Memories, who is taught by The Giver (Jeff Bridges) - the caretaker of mankind’s memories - in order to understand the lies on which their society is based on.
It was announced that Streep will also be reuniting with Robert De Niro on The Good House and will also be seen in August: Osage County, The Homesman and Into the Woods.
Jeff Bridges bought the rights to The Giver two decades ago after it was recommend to him by his daughter. Production on the film will begin in eight weeks in South Africa.
