The A&E crime-drama, The Glades, just aired its season finale on August 26th, but it seems that the season finale will now be the show’s series finale as the cable network behind the show has pulled the plug on the show. The show debuted on A&E in July 2010, and ran for 4 seasons until it was unexpectedly cancelled just 4 days after the now series finale aired.

The show followed a former Chicago detective, Jim (played by Matt Passmore), who took a job in South Florida with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) after he was accused of sleeping with the wife of the captain of his former detective’s office in Chicago. He moves to Florida to what he thinks will give him a more relaxing lifestyle but he gets more than he bargained for as things get more complicated than he ever imagined.

Fans are not happy about the show’s cancelation especially with the show ending on a cliffhanger, with Jim being shot twice on his wedding day. Since viewers won’t be getting any resolution about what happens some fans have started a petition online at Change.org.

The petition states:

As your first scripted drama to receive a renewal and give AETV an audience, I’m urging you to reconsider your decision to cancel, “The Glades”. Not only did the season finale receive a high rating, the cast has been superb at interacting with the show’s audience through Twitter, and other social media. They give their time to build the audience, and answer fan questions on a regular basis. With a dedicated fan base, I find it more than reasonable to ask your network to reconsider the decision, and put “The Glades” back on AETV.”

While A&E more than likely won’t be changing their mind about their decision there is still a chance that another network could pick up the show! It’s happened most recently with TV shows like:

Cougar Town: It got cancelled by ABC, but then got picked up by TBS.

Arrested Development: It was cancelled by FOX in 2006 but was recently picked up for another season this year by Netflix

The Game: Aired on The CW for 3 seasons before being cancelled and then picked up by BET 3 years later.

Plenty of other shows have been picked up by other networks so if you’re a fan of The Glades don’t give up hope just yet!
