With new opportunities like Kickstarter popping up around the Internet, you’re destined to see people anxious to make their dreams a reality, right? Give that opportunity to five childhood friends from Los Angeles, and you get a story about a twenty something slacker and his roommates, one of whom is a genie named Craig.
The group behind Craig the Genie are Brandon Blanks, Jordan Kelley, Pat Mclaughlin, Andrew Parkhill, and Joey Richter. The story was written by Brandon Blanks and Jordan Kelley, the others are playing the three main characters, roommates Pat and Googol, and Craig the Genie. The team did a skype interview on Side B Radio yesterday. They shared some insight into their history as well as the series and their hopes for the future with this project. Craig is a genie who lives with two friends, Pat and Googol, and he seems to be more trouble than he’s worth.
They shared the intent for this 30 minute episodic series to explore the past with Craig, as he was there to witness some historic moments that we may think we know about from history books, but he knows what really happened. We will also go on a journey with the main characters as they grow and mature. It’s a concept that is reminiscent of Doctor Who, or as Joey Richter (Craig) pointed out, Wishbone. It is a formula that clearly works. Hopefully, these guys can take us on this adventure.
Craig the Genie will be pitched to internet networks such as Hulu and Netflix. They have story arcs that could take them into at least three seasons already in the works, as well as a backstory that was originally intended to be a movie.
The team also shared some light hearted anecdotes; they made song recommendations for the show and revealed what they’d wish for if they had a genie to grant them wishes.
Check out the video, show the guys some love, and join the team by pledging to their kickstarter!
