The King of the North as Prince Charming?

Cinderella has found its Prince Charming! He comes in the form of the King of the North!

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Game of Thrones star, Richard Madden, has been cast to star opposite Lily James in Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella.

Cate Blanchett will also star in the live action fairytale as the evil stepmother.

An initial draft of the script was written by Aline Brosh Mckenna, who wrote The Devil Wears Prada, with the help of the producer, Simon Kinberg.

Kinberg told the LA Times why he wanted to tackle the iconic story that is Cinderella: “We were thinking of titles and characters that we hadn’t really seen done in a modern, live-action way, and we were kind of stunned that Cinderella hasn’t really been done that way, as a traditional, loyal telling of the story. She’s a great, iconic character, a character that I loved when I was a kid, and I loved the Disney animated movie.”

The idea for this film came back in 2010, after the success of the live action version of Alice and Wonderland. It will hopefully be released in 2014.

What are your thoughts on the casting of Prince Charming? Is the King of the North a worthy candidate?
