Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The latest film from iconic director Steven Spielberg has just dropped its first trailer, and boy does it look dang good! The Post will star the powerhouse performers and Academy Award-winners Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump (1994)) and Meryl Streep (Sophie’s Choice (1982)) in their first ever film together; if that doesn’t get you pumped up I don’t know what will!

The Post is based on the dramatic real events of the title’s Washington Post’s dilemma of whether or not to publish the Pentagon Papers. Meryl Streep portrays Katharine Graham, the first female newspaper publisher, who combines forces with editor Ben Bradlee, portrayed by the one and only Tom Hanks, who seems to be talking in a more Bostonian accent reminiscent to his performance in another Spielberg film, Catch Me if You Can (2002).

It wasn’t long before this movie was just in discussions to actually moving forward in production. It’s hard to believe we already have a trailer to treat ourselves with, and there really is no better time to tell a story like this, especially in our current political and economic climate. While both stars are sure to be a delight from start to finish, this first trailer leads us to believe that the story really belongs more to Meryl Streep, and the obstacles she must overcome not only being a woman in this hard-hitting environment, but also appearing to be a large overseer here in the decisions and actions pertaining to the freedom of the press, not to mention freedom of speech.

The trailer feels in the same vein as that of the Watergate All the President’s Men (1976), and it just oozes Oscar potentiality; it would hardly be surprising to see a nomination for either of the two leads in this film, but a Best Picture or Best Director nomination here may not be out of the question either.

The Post will star Tom Hanks (Sully (2016)), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady (2011)), Alison Brie (The Little Hours (2017)), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story (2011-)), Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)), Tracy Letts (The Big Short (2015)), Bradley Whitford (Get Out (2017)), Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad (2008-13)), Matthew Rhys (Burnt (2015)), and David Cross (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)), and hits the presses in select cinemas on December 22, 2017, and the rest of the world on January, 12, 2018.
