It’s that time of year again kiddies, time for The Voice! Hello, Everyone and welcome to season four of The Voice. Since this is a competition show, The Unholy Trinity and Killer Trio of PopWrapped, Bec, Tarra and Erika will be presenting you with three opinions of all the progression of The Voice

image

So with two new judges in the form of Shakira and Usher along with returning judges of Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, this season of The Voice promises to be very interesting indeed. New judges Shakira and Usher will be facing off against the bromance of Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Will Adam get his second victory? Will Blake gets his third consecutive? Will Shakira or Usher pull surprise upset?! How will they do? Let’s find out!

Tarra:

Now I’ll be upfront and say that I have a friend who auditioned for the show (#TeamLukeEdgemon people!!!) but until he graces the stage I’ll be more than glad to share my thoughts on the other mad talented voices!!

Bec:

I’m going to miss Cee-Lo’s crazy pets personally.

Erika:

First up as always, the coaches performance! They came out to rock! Adam on drums! Blake and Usher on guitars! Shakira on the harmonica and vocals! Very lively performance! The show’s off to a great start!

Bec:

“Come Together” sung by the Coaches: This is a very great introduction. While the original set of Coaches had a great chemistry. I kind of prefer this dynamic. Shakira played the harmonica. I kind of love her already for that. It had such a cool vibe in it.

Tarra

: I’m just going to be upfront and say that overall, I like them better (so far - I have the right to retract this opinion) than the ones they are replacing and the opening performance of “Come Together” shows that their voices definitely ‘go together’ better. AND Shakira played the harmonica so take THAT everyone!

And now for the contestants…Let’s take a look at tonight’s first round of blind auditions!Let’s take a look at the 11 (yes only 11!) individuals that were featured over the 2 hour premiere tonight:

Bec:

“Fallin” sung by The Morgan Twins: The first set of twins auditioning for the show. They want Usher as their coach and they dress alike. A little weird but whatever. They both seem like nice people. Duos don’t go far. However, their rendition of Alicia Keys “Fallin’” is very pretty to listen to. They both know how to harmonize excellently. It truly is something beautiful. They are also the first four chair turn of the night and season four. Plus I think the first four chair turn for a duo in the history of The Voice. I can’t wait to see The Morgan Twins in the future.  After some hard and fast sells from the Coaches Blake picks up the Morgan Twins. According to Adam he’s going to have explaining to do to his wife Miranda Lambert after this pick up.

TEAM BLAKE

Tarra:

The Morgan Twins (

TEAM BLAKE

): CREEPY but good singers (seriously, no 2 grown women should be dressing alike at 27, 7 but not 27!); Nice try Usher on the smooth operator role, too bad it failed ;)

Erika:

The Morgan Twins: Blonde bombshells who are identical!  Too matchy for my taste in the wardrobe department. Kinda corny at first glance. Their voices: well damn, they can sing! Insert foot in mouth! I wasn’t expecting a R&B from them! Usher’s reaction is priceless! Shakira is hard to impress. I think they will go for Usher. Drum roll: They went with Blake! Side note: Adam clowning Blake over the hot twins: priceless!

Bec:

“Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” sung by Jess Kellner: A hairdresser/musician, this Texas native has had a hard life growing up with her alcoholic mother. Her father and stepmother have helped her build up her talent and supported her. Good news is that her mother is sober now and she hopes for something good to come out of this. Jess’ smokey vocals and acoustic selection on the song shows off something very sweet and touchy. Shakira and Usher turn around right off the bat. It is well deserve because of how pure and sweet her voice is. I definitely teared up during the number a little bit. I do agree with Adam she has a little bit too much of Adele influence in her voice. However, Shakira is proving to be an awesome firecracker as she rips Adam apart. Ultimately though, Jess chooses Usher.

TEAM USHER

Tarra:

Jess Kelner (

TEAM USHER

): she had a nice soulful voice, more Joss Stone than Adele (my opinion) but really, I was just bored…

Erika:

Jess Kellner: Here comes the first sob story; hairdresser with an alcoholic mom from Texas. Country singer maybe? Joss Stone’s twin with the vocals in my opinion. Blake and Adam did not buzz in so it’s up to Usher and Shakira to duke it out. Adam got shut down by Shakira with Blake egging her on and saying Shakira ripped his ass apart. She picked Usher even though he didn’t really say much.

Bec:

“Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” sung by Mark Andrew: A roofer works for his brother. He was part of a band who lost two of his band members, one recently. He has a slightly country-ish sound to his voice. However, he gets Shakira and Adam interested right off the bat. He has a nice voice but he definitely needs a bit more stage presence. Yeah I’m with Adam the song wasn’t the best choice. Shakira is a very passionate sales person who talks a lot of “passion”.

TEAM SHAKIRA

Tarra:

Mark Andrew (

TEAM SHAKIRA

): let’s just comment on the Voice strategy for tonight, “We will make you cry tears of heartbreak then BLOW YA MIND WITH TALENT!!” I was not expecting that voice to come out of him but like Adam I wasn’t 100% sold… Hope your beginner’s luck is stocked up Shakira!

Erika:

Mark Andrews: Singing roofer? This should be interesting. Lost two band mates. Let’s see how he sounds…Adam is the first to buzz in. Sounds like Gavin Degraw…a bit uneven though. Shakira fights Adam over him and wins!

Bec:

“Titanium” sung by Janetza Miranda: From a Puerto Rican family, her family is nuts with their dancing and bird calls. She is hoping to get on Team Shakira.  Her parents are going nuts in the back room as she sings. However, this audition is definitely not my favorite one. She does some odd things with her voice that I don’t really like. And so no one turns around their chair. Adam gets up to hug the heartbroken girl.

Tarra:

Janetza Miranda: Not surprised she didn’t get picked, she was REALLY nervous and she let it affect her performance. That and she was like a real old school screamer that hurt my ears…

Erika:

Janetza Miranda: Bachata singer; likes to do bird calls…umm no…don’t ruin Titanium with that nonsense! Verdict: no swivels for her! Poor dear breaks down and Adam comforts her. She oversang it to be honest; way too dramatic in her singing. Sorry, bird lady! Next please!

Bec:

“Mean” sung by Danielle Bradbery: Sixteen year old Danielle Bradbery was teased for crooked teeth and used singing as a coping mechanism. This is her first time singing in front of a huge audience. Her voice sounds nervous but she holds it up. She gets Usher, Adam and Blake to turn around for her. Blake and Adam have adorable banter going on.  Usher gives the favorite line so far “Nashville is a state.” However, she ultimately makes the somewhat obvious choice and chooses Blake.

TEAM BLAKE

Tarra:

Danielle Bradbery (

TEAM BLAKE

): This little girl, I thought the judges looking at her was going to break her or something but she gathered her courage and delivered a predictable song choice in a strong way. Poor Blake, that all those judges turned around to entice this girl to their team & Adam’s FACE when she said that was her first big performance wasimage

But this segment also brought some of my favourite sound bites of the night -> “ARE YOU BRIBING HER WITH JUSTIN BIEBER TICKETS?” And the whole exchange when Usher flubbed that Nashville was a STATE, not a city… poor guy.

Erika:

Danielle Bradbery: Picked on because of her crooked teeth…a young’un…country singer…Usher actually buzzes in for her! Takes on Taylor Swift’s “Mean”. Looks the boys all want her so far. No Shakira this time! Blake turns on the charm and Adam starts with the shade. Love this banter between the boys! Blake naturally wins her over. I don’t see her lasting very long though.

Bec:

“Boyfriend” sung by Vido: An aspiring R&B singer who is hoping to get Usher as a coach. He was homeless and has a deep respect for his mother, who has lung cancer with two to six months to live. He’s been taking care of her and she encouraged him to go for the show. I really want Vito to get a chair to turn around. He has a very nice voice and definitely adds some flair to the Bieber song. USHER TURNS AROUND! And I am totally happy. Vito with his mother backstage is totally adorable.

TEAM USHER

Tarra:

Vido (

TEAM USHER

): I’ll just leave what I wrote down in my notes for your consideration: “Oh SNAP, YOU SING DA BIEBZ IN FRONTTA USHER??? Shitz just got REAL!” The dude can sing but like, I don’t think he sings in a genuine manner. SHAKIRA! you can’t just keep throwin’ contestants to other teams, STEAL ‘EM OR YOU WILL LOSE!!!

Erika:

Vido: R&B singer; Uses a Biebs song to win points; of course Usher went for him as the only coach who turned around for him, which was surprising. Maybe the slowing down of the Biebs turned everyone off?

Bec:

“Sexy and I Know It” sung by Christian Porter: Previously though deaf because he moaned and grunted as a baby until he learned music. He is currently a bar musician who wants more for his career. He does an interesting acoustic cover of LMFAO’s song. I don’t like the original version of the song. However his cover is certainly interesting.  He definitely has a sexy voice. He gets a three chair turn from Blake, Usher and Shakira.

TEAM BLAKE

Tarra:

Christian Porter (

TEAM BLAKE

):

HOTT

; not that that was an overall ORIGINAL cover arrangement (type “Sexy & I Know It Noah” into YouTube and behold) but good on ya! I had SHIVERS at the high notes; ADAM, you are kinda an idiota for not turning around on this one!

Erika:

Christian Porter: ok, so did this guy really do Sexy and I Know It?! Sorry, that song, no matter who sings it, cracks me up, and I cannot take you serious if you sing it no matter how well you sing it. He impressed Blake, Shakira and Usher with it. But Blake wins and picks up his third team member.

Bec:

“Blown Away” sung by Leah Lewis: Adopted from China with her sister at eight months, Leah Lewis is a country-bluegrass inspired singer. Her parents are absolutely lovey and supportive and sweet. She wants to help out with her parents and hopes for Usher or Blake to pick her. She has an extremely pretty voice and a lot of confidence onstage. She’s great for a fifteen year old. However, I was heartbroken when no one turned around. Still she needs a bit more polish and a different song selection something more intimate.

Tarra:

Leah Lewis: Where did this girl come from??? Get her a vocal coach and a handful voice lessons and she will be a FORCE in the biz!

Erika:

Leah Lewis: Adopted from China who’s going to sing Country?! This is going to be a trip! She really wants Usher or Blake. So close but no cigar…back to drawing board for the 15 year old who leaves in tears.

Bec:

“Saving All My Love For You” sung by Kris Thomas: A son of a pastor who would steal away to listen his brother’s cassettes. He descended into alcoholism after a record deal went south. He is sober after a life changing experience and wants to make the most of this second chance. He has a very sweet angelic voice and a nice flasetto. That voice gets Shakira to turn around for him. All the male coaches thought he was a girl.

TEAM SHAKIRA

Tarra:

Kris Thomas (

TEAM SHAKIRA

): he has the CUTEST Poppa! And although he was SUPER nervous he killed it, and got another priceless sound bite out of Adam, “NO WAY, YOU’RE A DUDE! I WOULD HAVE TURNED AROUND IF I KNEW YOU WERE A DUDE!” Good on Shakira for keeping the poker face to keep this guy!

Erika:

Kris Thomas: it’s the Pastor’s kid turn; he already lost a record deal and became an alcoholic and almost killed himself by drinking and driving. He goes with a Whitney song “Saving all my love”; Shakira turns first! And is the only one to do so! All of them are surprised that he’s a dude! He doesn’t look to thrilled to be on her team though. I could be wrong though.

Bec:

“The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” sung by James Irwin: A carpenter turned singer. He lost his twins after a horrible car accident last year. After this lost, he and wife had a son, who is adorable. His dream for this is to use music to support his family. He has a very velvety smooth voice. But he strains for the high notes and there’s a slight lack of passion. Still I’m bummed. He doesn’t get a chair to turn around.

Tarra:

James Irwin: You just can’t sing The Script sans warning, my musical kryptonite!! Too bad you missed the falsetto, so close on making a team.

Erika:

James Irwin: Singing Carpenter!  Well ok! Let’s see if Adam picks up his first team member.  I am getting John Legend vibes from him. No swivels for him unfortunately. He held back too much in his singing though.

Bec:

“What a Girl Wants” sung by Judith Hill: She’s from a family of musicians. She worked to sing as Michael Jackson’s female duet singer on his final tour. She sang at his memorial. She didn’t want to be in poor taste to ride on the coattails of his death. She has gorgeous control and does a very awesome funky cover. Oh! The second four chair turn of the night. She definitely shows her true talent.  She is definitely gorgeous vocally. I love it. She is truly a star in the making. Adam’s intense sales pitch gets him the most promising soloist in the episode.

TEAM ADAM

Tarra:

Judith Hill (

TEAM ADAM

) [warning, extreme fangirling ahead]: HOLY SCHNOODLES!! This girl is insane and I’m not sure if Usher was trying to Duet with her or DO-IT with her in his plea for her to be on his team. I’m a major fan of the sound/music guys right now considering that Adam Levine stated that he would set himself on fire to have Judith on his team then when she picked him they played “Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys - GOLD STAR Music guy, I was DYING of laughter!

Erika:

Judith Hill: The much hyped about singer tonight from the previews finally comes on! Let’s see if she lives up to the hype. Fun fact: She sang with MJ! Good for her for not taking advantage of MJ’s death.  Right away, Usher and Adam turn around! Shakira follows. Then Blake! Girl crushed it with What A Girl Wants! Adam threatens to claw everyone and light himself in fire to get her! Well, alright then, Adam! Usher and Adam both really want her. I see a front runner here! She picks Adam!

Highlights of tonight:

The return of the bromance!

Shakira holding her own against the boys!

Usher laying on the charm!

Usher declaring Nashville a state! Really dude?

Blake pulling out his Southern hospitality!

The judges chemistry with one another!

Usher trying to bribe Danielle with the Biebs and failing!

So there you have it - hoped you liked our triangle perspective on tonight’s premiere of The Voice. Tune in with us tomorrow at 8pm for part 2 of blind auditions! Can’t wait to see what the night brings! See you soon guys!
