The Winner Of The Voice Season Five Is…

NULL

Erika Rivera & Bec Heim

Senior Editor & Managing Editor

Alright folks! It’s time to close the chapter on The Voice season five. It’s been super fun recapping the show with you all. The dynamic duo will be back next season. February will be here before you know it.

The winner will be crowned tonight (in the last five minutes barely giving us anytime to register what just happened) and we will prepare for next season when we see Shakira and Usher in the red chairs again. Raise your hand if your body is ready for this.

Also Lady Gaga is performing tonight….take a moment to process that.

Does that mean she’ll be a mentor with Blake next season like Cher did? Because I would pay so much money to see that.

Wait? Paramore is going to be on tonight?! I LOVE PARAMORE! Awesome!

Bec:

“Tonight Is The Night” sung by The Top 3 with Live Round Teams: Wow. This sounds really bad. Can someone make this stop now? This sounds so bad. It’s so low energy. It’s boring as all hell.  Thank god it’s over.

Erika:

Looks like everyone forgot their lines…

Rhapsody” sung by Jacquie Lee with Matthew Schuler, Caroline Pennell, Cole Vosbury, and James Wolpert: Halfway decent contestant harmony! It’s not great but it’s pretty good. Hi James being in the middle of the audience randomly. Along with Caroline. Oh now it’s getting bad. Who let out that ear splitting howl? Oh no Jacquie…ugh. Sigh.

Erika:

Decent effort. Their mics were kinda shoddy though.

Now there is a compilation of Adam being “sexy” because everyone is ribbing him about it. Oh my God. They’re using “I’m Too Sexy.” And it ends with Blake saying Adam can sit on his lap anytime. The Bromance lives on!

Bec:

“With Love Can Move Mountains” sung by Celine Dion and Tessanne Chin: I love Tessanne’s face during this song. She is trying so hard to be professional and not to fangirl. Both of them sound great together during this song. It’s two huge voices doing what they do best. Again say it with me FLAW-LESS!

Erika:

Bless Tessanne. She definitely tried to keep her inner fangirl at bay but the joy of singing with her idol shone right out of her.

Now it’s time for Coach Impressions.

Bec:

“I Live” sung by OneRepublic: It’s not a bad song. It’s got a mellow-folky-rock type feel that I like. It’s a little generic but harmless. Ryan Tedder is singing it well. I suspect I will be humming it tomorrow. It’s no “Counting Stars” but I’m having a good time listening to it overall.

I wish they would have done “If I Lose Myself”. It’s one of their better songs on the album. Still love me some One Republic.

Now to figure out what the hell Cee-Lo has been saying all season. No one has a damn clue.

Bec:

“Treasure” sung by Josh Logan, Ray Boudreaux, Preston Pohl, Nic Hawk, and Matthew Schuler: Hey more halfway decent harmonizing! All these guys sound really good and it’s clear they’re into it. I just like that they’re having a lot of fun. Which is important. It’s fun pure and simple here.

Erika:

Best group number so far in the evening!

Bec:

“Wagon Wheel” sung by Will Champlin with Jonny Gray, Cole Vosbury, Caroline Pennell, and Austin Jenckes: Sigh. Hi Austin. WHY CAN NO ONE DO THIS SONG JUSTICE?! OHMYGOD!!! GODDAMMIT! Ugh! Sorry Old Crow Medicine Show was the original and the best. No one is harmonizing right.

I might have tuned out just now…what was that?

Bec:

“Ain’t It Fun” sung by Paramore and Jacquie Lee: Noooo! Why is Jacquie there? Sigh. Okay I’m going to focus on Hayley Williams awesome. Because I love her to death and she’s amazing. This song is awesome. This is like the biggest genre disconnect that I’ve ever seen. I am so done with Jacquie. I’m sorry. She’s a nice girl. She needs a little more training but yeah. She keeps trying to overpower. Just no. Go Hayley you’re awesome. Same with the rest of Paramore. It’s not terrible but I’m not a big fan of Jacquie’s voice.

Erika:

Jacquie actually did pretty good with Hayley. Hands down my fave song off their album.

Bec:

“My Life Would Suck Without You” sung by Kat Robichaud, Shelbie Z., Stephanie Anne Johnson, Tamara Chaunice, Amber Nicole, and Grey: The band is over powering them too. The voices for this song are mixed at best. It’s more a genre thing than anything else. Mainly though Glee did this song way better in season one. The harmonies are also okay. I’ll remember the set more tomorrow though.

Erika:

To voice a very popular opinion of the night: Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” will always remind me of Glee Season 1 a.k.a. back when it used to be a great show (shots fired, yeah I said it). That being said, the worst group performance of the evening.

Awww. Universal studios ending Whoville and the Grinch. I bet Will is wishing his daughter was here. WHAT IS IT WITH GIVING SIXTEEN YEAR OLDS BRAND NEW CARS?! I love Will’s face. Aww his first reaction: “I got dibs on the SVU. I got a baby!!!”

Jacquie says winning would mean everything. Tessanne can’t picture it. Will wants to win in order to reach people. Adam loves seeing his team succeed and have this amazing opportunity. It’s a blessing for Jacquie. Christina says that Jacquie is real and genuine. Will wants to win it for his new family and his dad proud. Jacquie wants to win it for her own family. Tessanne wants to win for her husband. Everyone wants to win for their coaches.

Bec:

“Incredible” sung by Celine Dion and Ne-Yo: It’s okay. Honestly this isn’t my cup of tea but yeah it’s an alright song.

Erika:

Ne-Yo and Celine Dion? Not bad (runs to download song).

Ryan Tedder talks about writing a song for a “moving target” aka the winner. He plans on working with the artist beyond tonight. Tedder also fired some shots at other reality shows who make their winners sing something about being victorious (here’s looking at you, American Idol).

Bec:

“Wake Me Up” sung by Will Champlin and Aloe Blacc: Wow. Will sounds really good here. There’s a nice blend between the two voices. They balance and entwine together in a good way. It’s a really nice collaboration with the pair. Definitely one of the better songs of the night.

Erika:

Will does amazing in this number. The pair of them blended beautifully. One of the night’s highlights.

Bec:

“Hold On, I’m Coming” sung by Tessanne Chin with James Wolpert, Preston Pohl, Olivia Henken, and Grey: Oh wow. Olivia and Grey. Dammit! I love this song too. It’s not a bad number actually. There is some decent harmonies. But Grey’s lack of personality and Olivia’s pitch issues still end up showing. Luckily Preston, James, and Tessanne are trying to cover any and all sins in that front. Mainly again it’s fun and at least they seem to be having fun.

Erika: Oddly enough, I wasn’t feeling this one too much.

Bec:

“Do What U Want” sung by Lady Gaga: Gaga is rocking some SUPER SHOULDER PADS that are just like super eighties. I like the set. There was an interesting weird dancing sequence. And now there’s Christina. Okay. I don’t know what to do here. Oh the seashell is a disco ball. Are they going to make out? Because it looks like they’re about to. Wait. Nope. False alarm. They just sing and toast with glasses of water? It’s not champagne. It was a fun song. It wasn’t overpowering on Christina’s vocals.

Erika:

Lady Gaga and Christina on the same stage…I wasn’t ready and now I’m awake. The ladies just crushed it. HOT DAMN.

Oh thank God they’re about to announce the winner. This night has been kind of underwhelming.

IN THIRD PLACE IS…WILL CHAMPLIN!

Congratulations Will! You did amazingly well. Either way you’re going to get a record deal.

THE WINNER OF THE VOICE IS…TESSANNE CHIN!

RUNNER-UP IS JACQUIE LEE!

Adam has won his second Voice.

Bec:

“Voice Winner Song” sung by Tessanne Chin: I have no clue what this song was titled. So I’m calling it Voice Winner Song. Tessanne is crying and trying to perform while excited. I can’t really hear it because all the noise is overpowering her. It sounds good. I want to hear it in full.

I always think it’s messed up when they make the winners sing afterwards…clearly they are emotional….stop doing this!

That’s a wrap from us here at PopWrapped. See you all back in February when Usher (yeah, baby!) and Shakira (hola, mami!) come back as coaches!
