Last season X-Factor USA failed to impress and got lost in the shuffle of singing competitions like The Voice and American Idol. Judge L.A. Reid threw fits about his group and Brittany Spears wasn’t the bubbly, entertaining personality we were expecting either. Frontrunner Carly Rose hasn’t been heard from since the show ended and winner Tate Stevens has yet to live up to the standards of UK winners like Leona Lewis or even runners-up like Cher Lloyd, Olly Murs and One Direction.
When the show premiers for season two, we’re hoping new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio will help amp up the ratings and make X-Factor everything Simon hopes it can become: “I just thought that all these shows were beginning to blur into the same show. That’s really the legacy of the show. It’s got to be that when you watch a show, you really believe that you’re watching a star being found and developed”, he told The Wrap.
On getting the two ladies together with returning judge, Demi Lovato, “It was a very easy decision to put these three together and you hope it’s going to work and they’re going to get on well. And luckily they did.” Lovato is also very excited about the new panel, “when we come together I feel it’s actually a family, which is actually so rare and I feel like it never happens, especially on these shows.”
Can the re-haul of the judging panel and a new year of talent be what the show needs to bolster viewership and prove that the U.S. version can stand on its own?
X-Factor premiers on September 11.
