The Kingdom Hearts series has a special place in my heart. There is absolutely no way I could have foreseen a video game mash up of Final Fantasy and Disney (Disney! Of all companies) to not only work, but work very, very well.

Watching beloved characters Donald Duck and Goofy go toe to toe with monsters was quite the spectacle.

So it’s a good day to hear Digital Spy report that Kingdom Hearts 3 will not be the end of the series. It will simply be the end of a trilogy. Director Tetsuya Nomura told Los Angeles Times (via Digital Spy):

“In Kingdom Hearts 3, the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past ten years will come to a conclusion. That is the plan. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past ten years will come to an end.”

Still, things have changed in the ten year story of Sora’s journey. I’m interested to see if Pixar characters will make an appearance in this next installation of the action-RPG. Especially considering Disney’s purchase of Pixar back in 2006.

Will we see Up characters Carl and Russell as supporting cast to the player, or WALL-E and EVE? That would sure be a nice addition. Not too sure about Star Wars, though.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is to be developed for next gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One. Take a look at the PS4 reveal below.
