It is often said that we are currently experiencing the “golden age of television”.  There are so many good shows out there, that sometimes it may be hard to stand out anymore. But from time to time something extraordinary happens. A television event so stunning, that it can outshine even the best of the best. And the Sean Spicer show is such an event.

The daily press briefings of the White House Press Secretary, is probably one of the greatest thing to come to the small screen, it is comedy gold! Nothing on television right now can match it. Not even Saturday Night Live, who despite trying their best, often fall short.

Not to say that they are bad, on the contrary they are really good. But there is no comparison between Melissa McCarthy’s “comedic performance,“ to Spicer’s original take.

And Spicer being the good guy he is, is still good natured when it comes to McCarthy copying him. He even joked about it at one point.

So in celebration of the comedic genius that is the Sean Spicer Show, we have put together the 5 best episodes of the ongoing series so far! 

5) The Pilot Episode “Mine Is Bigger”

This gave us a taste of what was to come. And despite it being aired ahead of schedule, it proved to be television at its’ finest. It is pure quality from the moment Sean Spicer took to the podium and started berating the gathered media.

His angry tirade centred on defending the size of his President’s … inauguration crowd.

The funniest scene was at one point Spicer angrily insisted that the crowd was “the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration.” Without providing any proof. 

4) “Jim Is Cute”

This was the episode where Spicer tussled with CNN’s Jim Acosta.

Spicer was defending tweets of the President which claims that he was “wiretapped” by the previous administration. Something which the Senate Intelligence committee has refuted.

Acosta at one point, said that Spicer was avoiding the question regarding the conclusion of both the House and Senate Intelligence committee when it comes to the “wiretapping” allegation.

To which Spicer replied that Jim’s question was “cute” and that the legislature which deals with actual intelligence may not have yet the information at this time.

He even said that Acosta had “zero intelligence” to say anything on the matter. To which Acosta replied “give me some credit.” Spicer then laughed at realizing the implication of what he said and apologized adding that he meant to add “clearance.” 

3) “The Apology That Wasn’t”

Also part of the “Wiretapping” saga.

This is a two part-episode. Wherein Spicer accuses British Intelligence agency GCHQ of spying on his lord and master on behalf of the previous administration. His source was an analyst for a major media outlet.

Something which GCHQ denies and he apologized.

Later during a meeting between, the Leader of the free world, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and his boss, the President stated that, “We said nothing. All we did was quote a certain very talented legal mind who was the one responsible for saying that on television.”

The President even joked at one point that he and the Chancellor share a common experience of being “wiretapped” by the previous administration. A comment which drew a wondrous incredulous stare from Merkel. 

2) “There Was Crickets”

Another episode wherein he berated journalists.

He admonished everyone gathered at the press briefing for (according to him) their refusal to cover ranking government officials in Capitol Hill who state that there is no evidence of Russia connection to dear leader, President Trump.

“It’s interesting to me that … when one entity says one thing that claims one thing, you guys cover it ad nauseam,” he angrily said. “When Devin Nunes (House Intelligence Committee chair) came out and said there was no connection that he saw to Russia, crickets.”  

1) “It Will Pass”

Now this is the best one yet, also the most dramatic.

The premise is that the President’s party which holds a majority in Congress is going to vote on replacing the Affordable care act.

At one scene, a reporter asks Spicer if there is a Plan B if it doesn’t. With full confidence he replied “No. It’s gonna pass. So that’s it.”

The problem was it didn’t pass. And what happened next is one of the best moments. He insisted that the President “did everything he possibly could.” It was funny, but also probably the most emotional so far, as you can see the pain in Sean’s eyes as he struggled to smile at the cameras.

It was a moment that probably deserves an Oscar if there was one for this category. Spicer singlehandedly made television great again!
