When you think the whole Donald Trump and FBI fiasco of today can’t get any worse, then you’ve forgotten that there’s always tomorrow.
Trump just threatened former FBI Director James Comey … with a tweet. While his “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press” is no laughing matter, Drake’s own lyric “trigger fingers turn to Twitter fingers” keeps replaying in my head, and I can’t help but smile. Is Trump the 2017 version of Meek Mill? As the President of the United States, he should know better than to make public threats. Then again, Trump’s never played by the unspoken rules of the presidency.
He’s just done everything his own way, and he’s never suffered any of the consequences.
However, he’s no longer running his own business. He may be the country’s leader, but he still has to adhere to the checks and balances that’ve been put in place. As much as he’d like to coerce Comey or the FBI into forgoing their investigation, they are going to continue, regardless. Like Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, Trump’s scary truths will be uncovered. Even though he’s perturbed by his own demons, his anxiety is no excuse for his antics. He’s just making a (guilty) fool out of himself. He needs to stop. He’s not living in Russia, and he’s not Vladimir Putin.
No matter how his administration tries to explain his behavior, Trump’s coercion will never be acceptable.
He’s trying his best, anyway. “Comey was not Trump’s only target of an apparent threat Friday — he also suggested the possibility of ending White House press briefings,” a CNN article reports. Between his erratic rants and fits of rage, he’s just making himself look more and more culpable. He just needs to take chill pill.
Better yet, maybe he should take an Abilify, the pill “for people who think they can be president.”
