In September 2010, there was talk of a biopic for the late rapper, Tupac Shakur. It was said to be developed by American director, Antoine Fuqua and Oscar nominated writers Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson. Years passed with no new developments other than Fuqua saying that he was still attached to the film in March of this year and just waiting for the script to be written.

Now just days after the anniversary of Tupac’s death there have finally been a new development on what’s going on with the film. It’s been announced by Deadline that an upcoming biopic is in the works. The script is now being developed by Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Morgan Creek Productions will be leading the film to be called Tupac.

Deadline also reported that Shakur’s mother Afeni Shakur has signed on to produce the movie. The new drafted script of the film is said to be expected to be ready within the next two weeks. They are hoping to get filming in February of 2014 with a 45 million dollar budget.

They have yet to announce who will be taking on the role of Shakur or whether they are looking for an established young actor or a new discovery. While they don’t have an actor attached yet they do have music as they have gained the rights to use Tupac’s musical catalog.
