If you’re not caught up on Project Runway, you might want to catch up before reading the outcome of the cheating scandal. If you watched this season’s promo, you knew the cheating scandal was coming and who (Michael) made the accusation. What we didn’t learn until last week was who was accused (Claire) and what she was accused of (secretly measuring pants in her bedroom).
Project Runway teases cheating scandal
Last week, Michael made a dramatic exit from the runway after Claire was announced the winner (of $25,000). During the episode, Margarita couldn’t help but notice a comparison between Claire’s top and her shirt dress from the week before. Comparison might not be a strong enough word. Margarita was convinced she copied it. There were a lot of similarities, but the final version that Claire sent down the runway did look different (although eerily similar to one of her sister’s shirts).
No one is going to mention how SIMILAR THESE DESIGNS ARE?! #ProjectRunway pic.twitter.com/g3qJjnxt8T

I do think that Margarita could’ve handled the situation better instead of telling this to every single person in the work room except for Claire. However, it was her gossiping to Michael about Claire secretly having a tape measure in her room that led to him leaving the runway.
Michael ultimately shared his concerns with Tim, while Batani filled in the judges on everything. They weren’t as concerned with Claire copying looks as they were with the possibility of her having a tape measure. Which is definitely not allowed.
Claire admitted to everyone, including Tim that she did indeed have a tape measure, but insisted she only used it to measure a tank and the crotch of a pair of pants. Still, that was against the rules and not only was her win forfeited, she was eliminated as well. Since Claire wasn’t eliminated on the runway, Heidi didn’t tell her auf wiedersehen like she normally does with eliminated designers. Forget one day you’re in and the next you’re out. This transpired pretty quickly and didn’t go into the next day at all.
A majority of Project Runway fans had been fed up with Claire for some time, so naturally Twitter rejoiced when she was eliminated.

You did start it Margarita. You did start it Michael. Stop acting like you feel bad. It’s what you wanted. #ProjectRunway

Were Margarita and Michael being petty?
Can’t believe Claire stood there and accepted $25,,000 in prize money. Michael and Margarita are heroes, not villains #projectrunway

Either way, that was one of the more memorable runway shows of all-time. The moral of the story is, don’t cheat.
