@ShaneAvery

Oh, this is a good thing to happen during the season.

Sarcasm noted I hope.

The Hollywood Reporter has issued the story that 19 Recordings (which was helmed by creator of the series, Simon Fuller) is saying that Sony Music has stiffed previous winners of the show, including Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, of MILLIONS. David Cook, Jordin Sparks, Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry are also repped by 19 Recordings.

Due to the breached contract, 19 is suing Sony Music for $10 million in damages!!

A statement from Jason Morey, who is 19 Entertainment Worldwide Head of Music, said:

“We did not want to have to file this lawsuit, but Sony left us no choice, so this became necessary to protect our artists,… Our complaint lays out the claims in great detail. Everything we have to say about the case is set forth in it.”

The claim goes on to say that the biggest issue is the alleged underpayment of streaming royalties.  It is also stating that Sony is improperly deducting money spent on TV ads. That would in turn hurt the Idol’s sales.

The article can be found here in more depth, but this is not boding well for ANYONE.

In a time where X Factor has been cancelled, Cee Lo Green is leaving The Voice, and viewership down on Idol to begin with, this needs to be taken care of in a smart manner.

What do you guys make of all of this? Will this hurt American Idol in the long run???
