So, Undateable is really hard to recap because so much happens during the show and you get caught up in the jokes! But his week on “A Truth Hug Walks Into A Bar,” the key to everything was a truth hug from Shelly. Apparently, according to Justin, Shelly’s hugs are so loving and warm you can’t help but tell the truth.
Well, this week Shelly has been staying at Danny and Justin’s for a few nights, which Justin questions. Danny refuses to share,
but Justin and Candace decide that if they sing everything they’re doing like a Broadway musical, Danny will break. It works. Danny reveals that Shelly’s mom lost her job and Shelly has been paying her rent, which means he can’t afford his rent so he had to move back in with his mom. Danny says he lived with a mom once, but it wasn’t his mom, so it got sexual.
Later on in the bar, Danny comes in to find that the crew has formed a plan to get Shelly to take Candace’s old bedroom upstairs. They make up a story about a robbery, and the cop told them that if someone lived upstairs, the bar would be safer. Danny doesn’t like it but he ends up being the one to tell Shelly.
Shelly agrees to help Justin out. Later that night, as Shelly is getting ready for bed, he has some questions about the robbery. The whole group falls apart with insane answers and Shelly chase them with a truth hug. He grabs Candace as everyone is dodging and running. She tells the truth.
Shelly is too proud to take the room, but Danny talks some sense into him. He says that Shelly is Brenting this. “Brenting”
is blowing everything small up into a big issue, like a 13-year-old girl.
Y’all, Brent was so happy about this because he felt invisible.
After they talk, the group traps Shelly into their own truth hug and he takes the room! Like I’ve said, 30 minutes is not enough for this show. I need so much more.
