Vin Diesel has been named by Forbes magazine as the top grossing movie star of 2017! The films he starred in this year were able to earn an astounding $1.6 billion in the global box office.
He leads a pack largely dominated by Disney-owned franchises. Stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and other Disney staples occupy seven spots in the top ten. Surprisingly though, Diesel's turn voicing Baby Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which earned more than $863 million in the global box office, was not factored in, otherwise, it would have pushed his overall grosses to more than $2 billion. Maybe because he did not appear on-screen and only said three words over and over again?
Vin Diesel's large gross receipts mostly come from earnings of 2017's second highest grossing film The Fate Of The Furious which earned $1.235 billion in the global box office. Coming in at second place is his Furious co-star Dwayne Johnson who came in close at $1.5 billion.
And at third place is another Fast And The Furious alumni Gal Gadot who appeared in three films of the franchise. If she hadn't been killed off and actually appeared in the latest instalment, she probably would have led this list. But still, third place is a good spot and is largely attributed to her role in the standalone Wonder Woman film and a reprisal of that role in Justice League.
